This post is going to be all about Dachiu Bearded dragons! I am going to give an honest review in my own opinion. Topics I will be covering are:
- How I thought this company and their products stood up to my expectations
- How the quality of the packaging was (was it safe/labeled/etc.)
- How the customer service was
- How the bearded dragons were (Health/shipping/temperament/etc.)
- Would I order again?
- Things I wish were different
The overall result and satisfaction of the purchase and the beardies were great! There were a couple of things that I wasn’t a fan of, however, nothing to the point where I wouldn’t recommend them to a friend in the future.
So what happened? let’s jump in with a step by step detailed process from start to finish!
So first off, I called the number listed on the website and claimed my new babies on Sunday the 13th of May, which is when Dachiu posts their newly available bearded dragons for that upcoming week. So the beardies in this bunch were for the week of 13th May- 20th May.
When I called she immediately answered the phone. I proceeded to tell her I was interested in the two females she had left, which she referred to as number 4 and number 7- this was how they were labeled on the webpage. While I was on the phone with her, she said her phone had beeped several times, she then told me other people were trying to call in to claim their dragon. I thought to myself “Wow, this place really does sell out super quickly.” I already realized this when I was looking last week, after 20 minutes of the dragons being posted all of them were sold. Heads up- There is no place for you to buy your bearded dragon on the actual page itself. You must call the number listed on the website in order to confirm availability/price/and buy. When you do this, they will mark the bearded dragon on the page as sold, letting gother potential buyers know it’s off the market.
She said that I could choose between a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday delivery. I told her I would like them to be delivered on Thursday so I could have time to prep the tank they would be kept in. She said she wouldn’t charge my card until the day of shipment, which would be Wednesday morning or afternoon. The shipping charge was $50 in addition to the cost of the bearded dragons themselves, and the cost of shipping does not increase with the amount of dragons you buy. In other words, If you can fit 10 bearded dragons in one box ( not recommended ;P ), then you pay $50 shipping. If you buy 1 bearded dragon, you pay $50 shipping, easy-simple-done. The beardies are delivered via overnight priority through FedEx, which I prefer honestly because I’ve had some pretty frustrating experiences through USPS or UPS. The bearded dragons were scheduled to be delivered to my Grandmother’s house around 10:30 am on the 17th of May.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure if it was my mix up or the woman at Dachiu, but somehow the address that was on the package was incorrect and I received a phone call around noon saying that the bearded dragons were not dropped off due to an invalid address. Grr..
After calling and correcting the address, I was sure they were put down as last on the list of priority after everyone else’s packaged after mine were delivered. I was pretty annoyed at this mistake because it’s not like it was a book that I was dying to read and had to wait on, it was two live animals that need a heat source to live that were in a dark box somewhere on the back of a FedEx truck.
Speaking of which I called the FedEx Facility a few times just to be absolutely positive that my package was going to be delivered that day and not brought back to the facility. The woman on the other end of the phone told me that it would be dropped off and seemed to not care in the slightest that I told her live animals were in the package. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, the beardies were finally delivered around 5:30pm, and I was so relieved that they were not held another day!
The packaging wasn’t really labeled as well as I would of liked. The box they came in had a fragile sign on it, but was not labeled “Live animals” anywhere, which I thought was necessary.
Inside of the outter box was smaller box. This box is what contained the bearded dragons. I was expecting one of those small plastic deli cups that you usually see at reptile expos, but alas, there was none.
after my fiancé opened the big box, I opened the little one and when I lifted the top the little babies poked their heads up and stared at me. They were the cutest things ever! I was in love already!
They were packed in the smaller box with trimmings of a thin newspaper like tissue, and that was it. The larger box containing the smaller one was packed with paper to minimize movement so they weren’t tossed around in the shipping process. Everything that had happened that day and the anxiety of wondering if they were okay all melted away when I finally opened the box and got a good look at them. All was good!
We brought the babies home and got them set up in their new digs, after a nice warm bath to help with any stress induced bloat or constipation. Overall they seem to be in great health, not constipated and active. They were a little skittish at first, which is to be expected- especially when traveling overnight in a dark box. My fiancé and I couldn’t be happier with our purchase.
So all in all it was a good experience and I would order from Dachiu Dragons again in the future. I would also recommend them to a friend that’s interested in a nice dragon. They have competitive prices and beautiful bearded dragons, just make sure your address is correct prior to shipping. 😉
If I could fix anything about this process, it would be to receive an email confirmation and tracking number after your card is charged through Dachiu Dragons. The only thing that let me know it was paid for was looking at my bank card history, there is no other email or notification sent through and you do not receive a tracking number. I had asked the owner twice for a tracking number when all of this “FedEx package delivery issue” took place and she looked up the location status herself in FedEx rather than provide me the tracking number. At first I didn’t mind, but after talking with one of the FedEx customer service reps (for the seventh time) who did not know where my package was, I requested the tracking number again and she told me the second time that she would again look it up. I finally said that I would prefer to have the tracking number so I may look for myself and it seemed to annoy her a bit. -I didn’t really appreciate that. However, she obliged and I was able to look up my package and track it’s progress. I am not sure if anyone else had this issue, but if you’re like me and watch your package progress the moment your order it, then this would probably not be the place for you to order from.
Well that’s all I have for today! Don’t worry, I won’t tease you much longer with these girls. I plan on doing an in depth blog on them this week, with lots of pictures and personality descriptions, names and more! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more this week!
(SPOILER ALERT): If you’ve been wondering what’s been going on with the goldfish, they “finally moved out of the house” 🙂
See you soon!
